WorldGuessr: the game that proves you don't know geography even if you were paid to. You've been dropped in a random spot in the real world, and you have to guess where you are!

Have you ever seen a road, four trees, and a suspicious gas station and thought, “This has to be Norway”? Well, welcome to WorldGuessr, the perfect game to test your geography skills… or to discover that you’ve been confusing Portugal with Chile your whole life. Here, you’ll have to guess where in the world you are by using Street View images and paying attention to any clues that appear on the screen.

Click and drag the mouse anywhere on the image to look around. When you hover over an area, you might see a black arrow where the cursor is. Click on that black arrow, and you’ll be taken to that location. Just like on Google Maps, you can only move along roads.

There’s a map in the lower-right corner of the screen. When you think you know where you are, hover over the map to zoom in, click on the spot on the map where you think you are, and then click “Guess!” You’ll see if your answer was correct or how close you were to the correct location. The closer you are, the more points you’ll earn! If you get stuck trying to figure out where you are, click the “Hint” button.

The gameplay seems simple: you appear at a random spot on the planet and have to figure out where you are. The problem is that the game has a curious habit of dropping you in the middle of nowhere. A deserted road, a forest with no signs, a house that looks like it’s been abandoned since 1987, and a sign written in a language you’ve never seen before. And then the investigation begins: “Let’s see… those utility poles… that mountain… that car… THIS IS DEFINITELY ARGENTINA!” Spoiler: you’re in Slovenia.

To figure it out, you’ll have to become a sort of Sherlock Holmes of Google Maps. Traffic signs, license plates, road markings, architecture, vegetation, power poles, and even the type of camera can give you clues. The more observant you are, the better your chances of getting close to the correct location and scoring high.
