Here are the basic rules of English Checkers:

• The board and pieces: it is played on an 8×8 square board (64 total), using only the dark squares. Each player starts with 12 checkers, placed in the first three rows on his side, always on the dark squares.
• Object of the game: The object is to capture all the opponent's pieces or leave him with no possible moves. If a player cannot move in his turn, he loses the game.
• Basic move:
  • Normal checkers move one square diagonally forward (never backward).
  • You can only move to a free square.
• Captures:
  • If an opponent's checker is diagonal and the square immediately after it is empty, you must jump over it and capture it.
  • Captures are mandatory.
  • If after capturing you can continue jumping, you must continue in the same turn (multiple captures).
• Crowning (King): When a piece reaches the last row on the opposite side, it becomes a "queen" or king.
  • The queen can move diagonally forward and backward.
  • It can also capture in both directions.
• Draws: A draw may be declared if:
  • Neither player can force a capture.
  • Too many moves are repeated without progress.
  • Both players agree to a draw.
