Tekken 3 is the third installment in Namco’s popular 3D fighting series and one of the standout titles for the original PlayStation. This version successfully adapts the arcade game, offering fast-paced, fluid combat and a wide variety of characters, each with their own fighting style, such as kung fu, taekwondo, or capoeira.
The game features more than 20 fighters, though only ten are available at the start. As you progress through the game modes, new characters and scenes are unlocked, further developing each character’s story.
In addition to the classic Arcade mode, it includes other modes such as Versus, Team Battle, Time Attack, Practice, Tekken Force (a side-scrolling action mode), and the fun Tekken Ball, exclusive to the PlayStation version.
The story takes place fifteen years after the second King of Iron Fist tournament. The protagonist is Jin Kazama, who seeks to avenge the disappearance of his mother, Jun Kazama, following an attack by a powerful creature called Ogre. His grandfather, Heihachi Mishima, organizes a new tournament with the goal of luring Ogre out and capturing him, though he hides his true intentions. Throughout the tournament, Jin uncovers dark secrets about his family and the mysterious power of the Devil Gene he carries within him.
The PlayStation version adds exclusive characters, new game modes, and additional content. Although it features some graphical compromises compared to the arcade version due to the console’s limitations, it maintains the excellent gameplay that made it one of the most beloved entries in the series.
