You will have to reach the critical threshold of 40 points on your first move to open your playing area. In Scala 40, every turn is a crucial decision: draw a card from the deck or from the discard pool, analyze your options and decide which card to sacrifice! The game is divided into two phases, the struggle to reach those first 40 points and the final frantic race to get rid of your hand using your own melds or adding cards to those of your opponents. Remember that the game is not over when someone wins; the other players must add up the points of the cards they still hold!

Watch out for ladders! They are more difficult to form than threes (cards of the same value), but they will allow you to place many more cards at once at the end of the game.
