Crossy Road is one of the first mobile arcade skill games, released in November 2014. It became famous almost immediately thanks to an idea as simple as helping a chicken cross the road. It’s a modern, endless version of the legendary Frogger, featuring voxel-style blocky graphics, vibrant colors, and plenty of humor.
The goal is to get as far as possible without dying. Each step forward earns you one point.
- Controls: Tap the screen to jump forward and swipe your finger to move sideways or backward. On PC and console, use the arrow keys or a controller.
- Obstacles: Roads full of cars and trucks, train tracks (a red light and a sound warn you when a train is coming), and rivers that you can only cross by jumping on logs or water lilies. If you fall into the water, you lose.
- The eagle: You can’t stay still for too long or move backward too far. If you do, an eagle will swoop down and carry your character away.
- Coins: There are coins along the way that you can use to unlock characters.
The game lasts as long as you can hold out—usually a few seconds or a few minutes—and you’ll want to try again right away.
